Make a Violet inspired lantern

Here's how to recycle a regular milk bottle and transform it into a beautiful lantern. Once you've made it, turn the lights off and watch it glow!

We love a Cheeky creation, and we also love recycling! This Violet lantern combines the two, to create something magical for you to enjoy.

What you will need:

  • 1 milk bottle
  • A glue stick
  • Light purple tissue paper
  • Dark purple tissue paper
  • A sheet of white foam
  • A sheet of yellow foam stars
  • A sheet of light blue foam
  • Scissors
  • Masking tape
  • A small string of fairy lights (battery powered)
  • A grown-up helper

What to do:

  1. To start, make sure your milk bottle is washed, clean and dry.
  2. Using your glue stick, cover the entire milk bottle with assorted strips and shapes of dark and light purple tissue paper. You don’t have to stick the paper on neatly – the messier your design, the better!
  3. Once the bottle is covered, leave it to dry for about 15 minutes.
  4. While your bottle is drying use your scissors to cut some white foam into strips.
  5. When the bottle is dry you can put a bit of glue on the tips of the white foam strips and then these can then be stuck all around the middle of your bottle, just like a tutu!
  6. Next, stick on the yellow foam star shapes to your bottle, above the tutu only.
  7. Using your scissors cut out a tiara shape from some more white foam – you can ask a grown-up to do this bit if you need help.
  8. Wrap the tiara shape around the top of the bottle and secure the two ends in place with some masking tape.
