Make your own Glitter ball

In the storybook, 'Glitter Disco Dancer', the Cheeky Monsters practice their awesome dance moves under sparkly lights and spinning glitter balls. You could make a glitter ball and have your own Cheeky Monster disco!

Now it’s time to turn on some music and practice your disco dance moves! You could try switching the lights off and shining a torch on your glitter ball. Give the ball a spin and watch how the reflected lights dance on the walls!

What you will need:

  • A large polystyrene ball (available from craft shops)
  • Kitchen foil
  • White craft glue
  • Sticky tape
  • Wire
  • Skewer or knitting needle
  • A grown-up helper

What to do:

  1. Use the knitting needle or skewer to poke a hole through the centre of the polystyrene ball. You may need a grown-up to help you.
  2. Cut a long piece of wire that is at least twice the length of your polystyrene ball.
  3. Fold the wire in half and push the folded end of the wire through the hole in your polystyrene ball. Secure the two loose ends of wire at the base of your ball with glue.
  4. Cut the foil into small squares (approximately 3cm x 3cm).
  5. Glue the foil squares around the ball in neat lines, until the ball is covered. Leave a very small gap between each piece to give the effect of a mirror piece.
  6. Your glitter ball is ready! Ask an adult to help you hang it up ready for your disco.
