Make your own wand with Violet

In the storybook, 'Violet Superstar', Violet waves her magical wand and the Cheeky Monsters are soon singing and dancing in a spectacular show. You could make a wand and put on your own Cheeky Monster show!

Now it’s time to wave your magic wand and put on a show! You could try using your wand as a microphone just like Violet does when she sings.

What you will need:

  • A piece of cardboard
  • Crayons or paint
  • A pencil and
  • A pair of scissors
  • A short wooden dowel or stick
  • Glue
  • Masking tape
  • Sequins, glitter, stickers, curly gift ribbons (optional)
  • A grown-up helper

What to do:

  1. Draw two identical shapes onto the cardboard. These will form the front and back of your wand topper. Violet has a star on her wand, but you can choose any shape you like. You may want to trace around a stencil or cookie cutter.
  2. Colour in and decorate your shapes. You can also paint the dowel if you would like your wand handle to have a different colour.
  3. Once the paint has dried, carefully cut the shapes out.
  4. If you have a few thin strips of curly gift ribbon you can tape these to the back of one or both shapes to trail down your wand.
  5. Glue or tape the tip of the dowel behind one shape. Apply glue all around the edges of this shape and then position the other one on top, aligning the two shapes neatly. Press along the edges to glue them together. When the glue has dried, your wand is ready to use!
